« The ‘tree of bread »
Known in the Cévennes as the ‘tree of bread’ because flour is made from dried chestnuts, which in turn is used to make the bread and cakes that traditionally were a food staple in the area. Situated at the foothills of the Massif Central, the steep landscapes of the Cévennes are totally unsuitable for the culture of cereals.
Chestnut tree honey derives from the nectar of the flowers but also contains honeydew that comes from aphids that invade the trees.
Available on 250 g, 500 g and 1 kg
Color: brown.
Smell: strong, wooded.
Flavor: Chestnut honey is light or dark brown depending on the presence of honeydew.
It tastes slightly tannic with hints of caramel. It is wonderful with pélardon hot or cold (typical goat’s cheese from the Cévennes).
Liquid honey to be stored at 20°C
